Policy Statement
Nelson Granite LTD is committed to ensuring equal access and participation for people with disabilities. We are committed to treating people with disabilities in a way that allows them to maintain their dignity and independence. Nelson Granite is committed to providing a barrier-free environment for all employees, job applicants, suppliers and customers who may enter our premises, access our information or use our services, without undue hardship.
Nelson Granite is committed to meeting its current and ongoing obligations under the Ontario Human Rights Code respecting non-discrimination. As an organization, we understand that obligations under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (AODA) and its accessibility standards do not substitute or limit its obligations under the Ontario Human Rights Code or obligations to people with disabilities under any other law.

1. a) Accessible Emergency Information
Nelson Granite is committed to providing individuals with publicly available emergency information, plans, or public safety information in an accessible way upon request.
Nelson Granite will
- Will provide employees with disabilities individualized emergency response plans upon hire
- Continue to improve and update these individualized emergency response plans as changes occur
- Any individual who enters Nelson Granite property will always be accompanied by a staff member
1. b) Accessible Formats and Communication Supports
Nelson Granite is committed to providing its policies and information in an accessible format upon request. Nelson Granite will consult with the individual in order to determine the most appropriate format or support.
- Nelson Granite encourages our staff to download the “Translate” app on their phones to communicate with a deaf individual
- Nelson Granite provides beginner ASL classes for its staff, in house
- In special cases, Nelson Granite will have a ASL translator on site
2. a) Recruitment and Training
Nelson Granite is committed to ensuring that our recruitment and assessment processes are fair and accessible. We will
- Notify job applicants who have been invited for an interview that accommodations are available
- Notify all employees and new hires of policies for accommodating employees with disabilities
- Inform existing employees of any changes to our policy used to support individuals with disabilities
- Review these policies annually
2. b) Workplace Emergency Response Information
Nelson Granite will provide the Workplace Emergency Response plan to all employees upon hire.
We will provide any persons with disabilities an individualized workplace emergency response plan outlining the supports needed.
Nelson Granite will review individualized workplace emergency response plans:
- When the employee is moved to a different location within the company
- When the employee’s overall accommodation needs or plans are reviewed
- When Nelson Granite reviews its general workplace emergency response policies
2. c) Accommodations Plan and Return to Work
Nelson Granite will develop an individualized accommodation plan and return to work plan for any employee who has been absent from work due to a disability. Nelson Granite will:
- Provide plans in accessible formats
- Keep all individualized accommodation plan information confidential
- Involve the employee in the development of the return to work plan where the accommodations will be decided
