Nelson Granite History

The Nelson family's experience in the granite industry goes back four generations to a man named George W. Nelson. In 1909, George Nelson started out as a stone-cutter, creating fine memorials in New Brunswick. Through hard work, dedication and a commitment to quality his company flourished. This commitment to quality was carried on by his son, Russell Nelson, also a skilled stone-cutter and quarryman.

Fast forward to 1980 when Carter Nelson, George W. Nelson's grandson, arrived in a pretty little hamlet named Vermilion Bay in the heart of the Canadian Shield. Recognizing the opportunities that lay in this granite-rich area, the development of Nelson Granite Limited began. Carter and his son Nevin worked together to turn the dream into reality and in 1981 Nelson Granite opened its doors for the first time.
